CBT

Adaptive Psychotherapy,

Embrace change, find balance.

CBT suggests that Depression and Anxiety are maintained due to a bi-directional feedback between our physical sensations, thoughts, emotions and behaviours. These are often automatic responses and support us in the short term but not in the long term.

CBT is a practical, experiential approach which utilises strategies to develop alternative thought patterns and behaviours which in turn reduce distress and support in the long term.

Although predominantly focused in the here and now CBT does explore and incorporates how our past experiences have contributed to what we are currently feeling. CBT is a NICE recommended approach for Depression, Anxiety and PTSD.

EMDR

Adaptive Psychotherapy,

Embrace change, find balance.

EMDR is a NICE recommended approach for PTSD. It can also be beneficial for Depression and Anxiety.

EMDR suggests that psychological difficulties and symptoms of PTSD, Depression and Anxiety are experienced due to previous experiences not being fully processed in the brain. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) either through tracking eye movement side to side, tapping or through sound to support and achieve adaptive information processing. It requires you to briefly tune into target memories that are linked to your current difficulties whilst using BLS to process the memory. Through this process feelings of distress and the vividness of the memories reduce.
